Fresh Start Volunteers Step In to Help with Turkey Drive
This Thanksgiving, volunteers at Fresh Start teamed up with Everyday Miracles for the Turkey Drive to benefit the local community. Everyday Miracles is a local organization that helps those who are less fortunate in the community of Worcester, Massachusetts. Whether it’s homelessness or drug addiction, this volunteer-driven group helps those who are in need.
This year, Everyday Miracles had a number of turkeys ready to serve up to the community on November 20th, but after an unfortunate refrigerator malfunction, the food was spoiled. Fresh Start stepped in and donated 11 new turkeys so that the community event could carry on as planned.
Additionally, volunteers from Fresh Start teamed up with Everyday Miracles to work the event, serving hungry people in the area a hearty Thanksgiving meal. The additional donated food served over 300 plates of food to hungry folks in the area.
Fresh Start is a local organization that aids young men who have entered the criminal justice system. As an early intervention program for these youths, Fresh Start trains and gives them a new chance to give back through acts of community service, such as the Turkey Drive and other volunteer experiences. This year, several young men associated with Fresh Start were able to help serve food to the community, which turned out to be a truly meaningful experience for everyone involved.
“They are no longer part of the problem,” said Derrick Kiser, founder of Fresh Start, “they are part of the solution.”
